Why a foundation?

People frequently ask us:
“Why exactly did you decide to set up the Anja Beran Foundation?”

The principal mission of this foundation, set up in autumn 2009, is to preserve classical equestrianism. This can only be made possible by passing on knowledge and experience to the next generation of trainers and riders.

-Classical dressage helps the horse to find its mental as well as its physical balance so that it can carry the rider without any detrimental effect on its health.

The art of classical dressage training is a great accomplishment of our culture, and one which it is important to preserve, because the horse forms the spirit and character of human beings and influences their inner values.

Trainers of classical dressage treat their horses and pupils with respect as well as humbleness. Anyone who would like to be a real rider and trainer has to subject his own actions to constant critical scrutiny. Only hard-working people with a sense of discipline, respect and love are in a position to preserve the values of classical equestrianism. This illustrates clearly how important it is to preserve the ancient tradition of equestrianism because it is so closely linked to our system of values. The foundation wants to help to prevent the destruction of such values.

Current Aims of the Foundation:

To enable future pupils to pursue a six-year period of training in accordance with the principles of classical equitation.

Setting up of a teaching yard, where horses trained according to the principles of classical equitation are available as schoolmasters initially to pupils and later to interested riders.

A series of publications and instructional films will provide interested riders with the opportunity to extend and deepen their knowledge about classical equestrianism and also to implement in practice what they have already learned in theory.
