About the Foundation

“Where shall I, endless Nature, seize on thee?
Unless you feel, naught will you ever gain.”
J.W. v. Goethe, Faust

Profound affection for the living creature, respect for creation as a whole as well as ongoing endeavours to promote and secure a future for riding within the concept of classical horsemanship – these are the aspirations and sentiments behind the Anja Beran Foundation. Its philosophy is deeply embedded in our culture and history. In bygone days the quality of chivalry was attributed to the rider and, conversely, was expected of him which consequently in the French language, with which the art of equestrianism is so closely associated, led to the rider being elevated to the status of “chevalier”.
This, indeed, involves a touch of elitism and we are fully aware of this fact. We accept it quite openly because we know that only a select few are in a position – on the basis of knowledge, diligence, stamina, discipline and talent – to develop and preserve the art of equestrianism in its fullest dimensions. Which, moreover, is why it is essential for instruction to involve more than mere riding in order to acquire the necessary authority to pass on classical horsemanship, and to convince and instruct in pursuit of its ultimate aims. This, however, is the objective which the Anja Beran Foundation would like to fulfil. The Foundation intends to set standards; to give young riders the opportunity to develop into masters of classical horsemanship and to provide a special kind of idealistic homeland to all who feel themselves attracted to the art of equestrianism.
